Nightingale Flutters Onto Hastings

May 20, 2016

The intimate, buzzing atmosphere when you enter chef David Hawksworth’s anticipated second restaurant, Nightingale, can be deceiving. Yes, there is a candlelight fireplace nestled in the back; yes, there is a huge bar, each seat taken by a happy cocktail-sipper; yes, every table is taken, all full with chatter echoing off the walls. But that’s not all. Look up.

The high ceilings and beautiful light fixtures lead to another floor with even more hustle and bustle. It’s huge, with the biggest open plan kitchen we’ve ever seen. Take a front row seat by the kitchen, nestle in a booth, or if even hire out their private space at the back.

We haven’t even mentioned the food yet. It’s the best part. Old school hip hop provides the soundtrack for this well-thought-out, simple, unique and extensive menu. With something to satisfy everyone, the food is elegant, and boasts farm-to-table freshness.

While it’s hard to choose what to recommend, a visit to Nightingale isn’t complete without sampling the crispy fried chicken, the asparagus and egg pizza (trust us), and caramel pot de creme. Feel like something a little more refined? The spot prawns, rockfish, and lamb chops are mouthwateringly good.

With the spectacular food, flawless service, and elegantly eclectic décor, we have a feeling this is going to be a regular haunt. — Aleeza Khan
