Sweet Solutions for Not-So-Hot Night Sweats

January 27, 2017

In our continuing quest to find fab fixes for unfashionable mom problems (read our first instalment in this series, featuring a—trust us—chic solution for bladder incontinence, here), we’re tackling a rather “heated” issue: postpartum perspiration.

Most mamas encounter this damp dilemma in the weeks following baby’s birth. You go to bed comfy and dry, only to wake up drenched from head to toe, drowning in a clammy pool of your own sweat. The biological explanation is simple: your hormones are at it again, telling your body to rid itself of all those extra fluids it was using to nourish your unborn child. While you can wait for your night sweats to taper off, there are steps you can take to make the experience a little less … soggy.

First, find sleepwear that uses moisture-wicking technology to draw perspiration away from your body and into the air—and yes, sexy styles incorporating such innovation do exist. Next, choose your bed linen wisely; when it comes to postpartum perspiration, a higher thread count that allows for less airflow isn’t necessarily the luxe way to go. Finally, add aromatherapy. A quick spray of a cooling mist that includes essential oil ingredients like lemon, rose and ylang-ylang can help put your next night-sweat-inducing hot flash on ice.

And there you have it: another not-so-stylish mom problem, solved. —Noa Nichol
