The film is comprised of three disparate yet equally fascinating storylines about restaurateurs facing formidable challenges. The owners of a cosy, down-home, Iowa diner fight to preserve their valued community gathering space despite repeated disaster, while the family behind a fledging Mexican eatery recreates heirloom recipes to survive.

Further, the movie offers a glimpse into the battle with tongue cancer waged by Grant Achatz, chef at world-renowned molecular gastronomy landmark, Chicago’s Alinea. The storylines are united by passion and perseverance: whether a small-town baker is fastidiously preparing her reputed raspberry pies or Achatz is pouring liquid nitrogen on a pineapple, their dedication to their craft, and to navigating the diverse difficulties of the restaurant industry, makes this film a compelling watch for anyone—especially those with an interest in food culture.
