2026 Will Be The Year Of Trendless Weddings

December 19, 2025

Events

In the age of hyper-aggressive trend cycles, trying to curate a list of what’s celebrated as cool for an event you are planning 365 days (or more) in advance is basically impossible. That’s why our hot take on what’s cool in wedding vibes for the year ahead is the trendless wedding.

This means stepping out of the noise and constant churn of information we’re fed on social platforms and creating a celebration that is supremely chic and heartfelt because you didn’t prescribe to the ever-changing vibes and aesthetics making headlines in a moment.

Alexandria Damouni is a Canadian-based luxury event planner, and the founder of Alexandria Damouni Design for OMG Events says trendless weddings are something she started seeing this year with couples who want their day to feel genuine, and absolutely not a moment made for social virality.

“This was the year we started to see a transition in wedding planning where couples stopped performing for other people,” Damouni shared with me on a recent episode of my podcast Aisle Seat. “What I’m seeing as the new norm for the year ahead—and beyond—are weddings that are not about performance or Pinterest perfection because that has become so overwhelming. What’s trending in weddings is emotion and experience.”

This sentiment is on brand for the times. As AI aggressively rises, so too does the love of nostalgia with the latest buzz heralding 2026 as the year of living more analog, off-screen experiences like reading physical books, listening to vinyl, and experiencing art IRL. In the realm of weddings, that means creating an experience with heart that feels and intentional at every touchpoint. “Your event should not be based solely on trends or because you want to be in line with what you have seen someone else has done because this is when it loses the meaning of being your wedding day.”

Doing you is what’s most on trend for weddings in 2026. Of course, we do have thoughts on some details to consider incorporating into your party because they are fun and fabulous. We’ve curated our list to just five chic ideas because keeping it short and sweet feels most authentic and intentional. —Alison McGill

Creative Colour Combos

Sorry Cloud Dancer but an all-white wedding is not the mood we’re feeling for wedding décor in 2026. This is a time to explore colour which brings emotion and joy to your day. And don’t go with conventional pairings. The more unexpected the better. Red is now a neutral that goes with everything, and call it the Wicked effect, but pink and green has never looked better together.

Elopements

There could not be a more real wedding style than eloping and it’s what so many people want. Just the two of you with no fuss, no fanfare, no pleasing families, no seating chart drama, no waste, and no massive budget. Keeping it simple and full of heart is huge for many couples today who are choosing low-key ‘I dos’ a bucket list honeymoon as their celebration of choice.

1980s Wedding Cakes

Nostalgic wedding cake designs heavy on piping and throwback shapes like heart layers are not going anywhere, but what you will see more of in 2026 are cakes decked in details from the era of excess like columns placed between cake tiers, cherubs, and kitschy cake toppers.

Florals With Movement

Rigid, static arrangements are out. Ethereal, cascading floral designs are in and the key feeling to capture with modern wedding florals is a feeling of motion. Flowers that flow and are incorporated into organic, whimsical feeling designs with a focus on twisty, wild shapes, natural bends, and interesting textures. Star blooms include Amaranthus, jasmine vine, sweetpeas and anthuriums.

Lace Everything

One of Pinterest’s key trends for 2026 is ‘Laced Up’ which shines a spotlight on the traditional wedding fabric which we can expect to see everywhere in fashion and home décor. Bridal designers were well ahead of this trend with most making lace a main character of their 2026 collections. The best looks feature layered looks—lace gowns, suits, trains, veils, capes, gloves and shoes—to create a maximalist look of vintage-inspired beauty.
