Her name might not be instantly recognizable, but Kat Edmonson has a sweet and sultry voice worth knowing.
In support of her third studio album, The Big Picture, Edmonson is going on a short U.S. and Canada stint this month before embarking on a full tour in early 2015. We had a chance to see her live at The Drake Hotel in Toronto, where she opened with “Rainy Day Woman,” the lead single from the album that was recorded with Grammy-nominated producer Mitchell Froom. Her voice and performance (accompanied by a talented band on stage) was intimate, magical and totally moving, reminiscent of the sounds of Billie Holiday. Influenced by films and movie scores, this album is a delightful jazzy-and-retro-pop treat.
If she’s passing through your city (here’s looking at you Vancouver!) don’t miss out on this charming talent’s live performance; you’ll be pleasantly astounded! —Julia Parfenyuk
