Psychic, But Make It Empowering: Monica Krake On Readings, Reality + Inner Authority

Lifestyle & Parenting

In a world where psychic readings are often framed as destiny-defining moments, Monica Krake offers a refreshingly grounded perspective. As founder of Head + Heart, Monica believes that no intuitive can know more about your life than you already do—and that the true value of a reading isn’t prediction, but clarity. In this conversation, she unpacks why intuition reflects possibility rather than permanence, how to approach psychic insight without giving away your power, and why practices like breathwork and stillness may be the most reliable guides of all. —Noa Nichol

You’ve said that a psychic can never know more about our life or destiny than we already do—what do you think people are actually seeking when they book a reading?

There’s a whole spectrum of reasons for seeing an intuitive. Some people book a session just for fun, and maintain a healthy scepticism, while others come into a sessions with a massive crisis their seeking guidance with. And others, like me, simply enjoy exploring the intuitive realms, and being reminded of all the ways we have as humans, of accessing information – there are magical unseen forces at play in this crazy experience of being a human.

Many people treat psychic readings as fixed predictions. How do you reframe readings as reflections of our current emotional or energetic state rather than permanent truths?

As relational beings, we are by our very nature impressionable to the thoughts and opinions of others, and when we believe that person has special gifts, probably even more so, because we assume they’re tapped into information or higher truths we don’t have access to ourselves. In a session, many intuitives are tapping into their Higher guidance/Guides to receive impressions or guidance, which is often based on the client’s immediate energetic field and energetic landscape, and what’s possible or ideal rom that particular energetic snapshot. For example, if you go into a reading while you’re in a particularly dark place in your marriage and a psychic sees you moving on from that relationship, they may be accurately tuning in, but what they receive is never the only path. We are the creators of our reality, and there is always an infinite number of possibilities available to each of us. While I’ve received some incredible intuitive guidance, I have also received some less than accurate/totally untrue information. It’s all simply information. We choose how to interpret it, what we want to believe, and how we want to move forward.

You’ve spoken about how intuition picks up on possibilities, not certainties. How can people hold psychic insight lightly without outsourcing their personal power?

Always approach a reading with the deeper knowing that you are the creator of your life and reality, and that nobody outside of yourself knows what’s best for your life. They may have access to different information, but it’s your choice how to receive and integrate that information. This is a gentle caution, because many of us have disconnected from how truly powerful we are, and from our unbreakable connection with God. This remembrance requires stillness and it’s always available.

In your experience, what distinguishes a supportive, ethical intuitive from one who creates dependency or fear in their clients?

Sure, we all want a shortcut at times, but an ethical guide is someone who empowers you to trust your own intuition, while using their gifts to guide you. When an intuitive is using their gifts as a form of service, they always point people back to their own body and intuition to discover what’s true. I recently had a reading with Maribeth from Akashic Balance, and I came with tons of questions about a work relationship that wasn’t ideal, and she kept pointing me back to discover the answers within. It was profound because she taught me how to tune in, in a powerful way, and I ended up receiving some much-needed guidance and deep clarity.

You’ve shared that some of the most meaningful readings in your life didn’t tell you what would happen, but helped you clarify priorities. What role should clarity—not prophecy—play in intuitive work?

I think the most powerful sessions connect the client with their own intuitive knowing. With this, when information or visuals are shared, the most powerful guides share what they receive, without explicit directions. If you hear “You need to do this” that’s not empowering and can actually create chaos in someone’s life.  A friend of mine was told her sister would be in a fatal car crash in their 30’s which never happened. I was told that a male would buy my company last year and that didn’t happen either! I’ve actually been told lots of things would happen that didn’t transpire. A reading is simply a potential. But when you do hear something that deeply resonates, that can be pure gold. Long before I had any desire or inkling to do healing work with people,I was told that I was meant to be bringing Light to people, that I would become a healing practitioner. My reaction was ‘nope’ but years later when I felt called into that direction, that reading provided a lot of assurance that I was on my Higher path.

As someone who identifies as both intuitive and deeply grounded (even a self-described Type A Capricorn), how do you reconcile logic, structure, and spiritual insight in your own life?

We live in an incredibly noisy world. Having run an agency for years, and lived in the hustle culture, then finally come out of the closet to become a breathwork and meditation practitioner, I feel like a bit of a bridge between two worlds, in the way I facilitate groups and individuals. What I know for sure is that this human life is about meeting and accessing ALL aspects of being- from the intuitive and spiritual to the practical and logical. We are here to integrate into our true natue, and fullness of being, to release the idea of separation, and to wellcome all parts into the whole. As I’ve practiced more presence and meditation, I’ve accessed many psychic moments, even though I’m also a very organized, Type A person. I’ve realized we don’t need to fit into any ideas of what ‘being this or that’ should look like. We can remove the box, and simply be. This is what we’re here in Earth School to realize- that we are both human and divine, and infinitely connected to all of life. When we start to access this, life becomes a whole new playing field.

You believe we all have access to guidance. What are some ways people can begin strengthening their own intuition without ever seeing a psychic?

Meditation, breathwork, nature, and stillness are the ways humans have been accessing the intuitive and spirit realm since ancient times, and they all continue to work. The key is to find a practice or approach that feels resonant and to believe in yourself. To know that you can access space and stillness within, and to practice. Breathwork has played a major role in your path. How does breathwork differ from psychic readings as a tool for accessing inner wisdom?

Breathwork is an active form of meditation, that helps us regulate back to the truth of who we are. To access the iintuitve realms, most of us need to  learn to quiet the mind, to steady our nervous system, to clear our emotional landscape i.e. release stuck emotions. From there, we can feel ourselves viscerally open up to, and access, our intuitive and even Spirit realms. For those of us who struggle to find stillness, breathwork can be very supportive as it gives us something to do while we learn to settle and open to our intuitive realms. This is why, no matter how Type A they are, when people drop into breathwork they often receive messages, clarity, and higher guidance during breathwork sessions.

You’ve had moments of receiving intuitive messages for others while facilitating breathwork. How do these experiences challenge the idea that intuition is a “gift” reserved for a few?

Anyone who is open to exploring the unknown, and moving beyond the mind to the many other ways we have of accessing information, can tap into these realms.  Some people are more naturally open to or interested in exploring these realms than others, but everyone is able to cultive deeper intuitive knowings.

For someone curious about psychics in 2026—but wary of being misled—what mindset or questions would you encourage them to bring into a reading to keep it empowering?

I always like to ask intuitives where their guidance is coming from, how they connect and where they believe they’re receiving information or guidance from. If you decide to receive a reading, it’s a good idea to do a vibe check and ensure the guide you’re considering is coming from a place of pure Love and true service. If you’re booking a session because you really want guidance on a specific area of your life, it may help to first practice strengthening your own intuition and self-trust so that you come into the session ready to receive with your personal power in tact. And then, when you hear what’s shared, tune in to ask your own body and being if the information shared feels true for you, so you can consciously decide what to receive and what to leave behind.

Access to experienced tarot readers is essential for a meaningful session. Platforms that evaluate reader background and communication style help users select advisors who provide thoughtful, personalized guidance rather than vague interpretations.
