Sustainable Clothing Without the Sewing

Here’s a fashion Zen kōan for you: “Can clothing exist without sewing?”

In 2016 jewelry maker Morgan Mallett challenged herself to apply a “slits and tabs” technique to her first official clothing collection at Vancouver-based Design + Conquer, aptly called Sewless. Her IKEA-esque designs made from sustainable and ethically sourced Portuguese cork fabric (similar durability and texture to leather) can be rolled up or flat-packed for travel. The resulting pieces have a stunning show-stopping esthetic: we love the Analog Dress ($500), an architectural space-age take on the flutter-sleeve shift.
