OPERATICS

September 19, 2007

Combine fabulous music, melodrama and a few divas in bustiers.

No, its not a gay pride ball, but the latest production by Opéra de Montréal. Its 28th season kicks off with murder, conspiracy and a smidge of passion in the Verdi classic, A Masked Ball.

If you cant tell your Verdi from your Puccini, attend a pre-Opera lecture. For only $5, a wise musicologist will explain the story so you can fully appreciate what you are about to see.

So dig out the opera glasses, throw on a faux-fur stole and head for Place des Arts.

Pavarotti, God rest his soul, would be proud.
