The loveliness of old, mixed tapes is that the compilation often
represents special moments from the past: an epic summer road trip, a
first love, a broken heart.
As part of the Enbridge playRites Festival of New Canadian Plays, 300
Tapes doesnt play around with nostalgia so much as it actually
throws the actors right back into their pasts.
In a combination of theatre, dance, storytelling and sound installation,
three performers have each filled 100 analog tapes with personal stories
that are played back to them through earphones during a performance.
As the audience encircles the stage, viewers are made to feel like
theyre inside a tape recorder and because theres not enough time to go
through each of the 300 tapes in one evening, every performance
variesjust like the perfect one-of-a-kind mixed tape.
Runs until March 5 at The Big Secret Teatre, www.atplive.com,
