On Election Day, after long weeks of bitter campaigning, it’s good to
remember why so many people love this countrythe country itself.
Christine Flynn, designer and owner of Queen East shelter boutique Love
the Design, travels around city and province to snap iconic bits of
Canada on her digital SLR. Think trees in blur, horses dappled with
light, train tracks, ravines, snow. She also digs up old-school maps,
their edges cracked. Photos and maps alike are manipulated, either
digitally (using Photoshop) or manually (using Letraset, for example),
then coated in resin to keep them looking vintage, not old. Each is
mounted, naturally, on wood.
You’ll probably never move to that house in the country, but you can
hang a piece of the dream on your wall. SNP
