Two By Two Scoops

June 24, 2011

A couple of new, but old-fashioned, ice cream shoppes are worth
screaming for this summer.

Cool Hand Luc,
on the formerly scoopless King West strip, has the cleverest name and a
hallucinatory cartoon mural to swirl you in. Luc Essiambre made his own
ice cream for seven years, but chooses to serve Kawartha, a
made-in-cottage-country-or-possibly-heaven classic. Get my fave,
Birthday Cake, and his best-seller, Chocolate Peanut Butter, in a
regular cone for $3.50.

In Kensington, just-opened Mr. Cream scoops out their own brand of ice
cream alongside Chudleigh’s piesthe simplest, best idea. I loved Blood
Orange (more like a thick, tangy sorbet) and their tongue-twisting
flav-of-the-day, Chili Chocolate Cherry, in a crisp waffle cone for $4.
