Between her career as a renowned singer-songwriter and her personal life (mother to three boys and wife of rock star Raine Maida), Chantal Kreviazuk doesn’t have much time to sleep (but read on to find out why she doesn’t mind).

Herewith, 5 questions with Chantal.

Thanks for taking the time to chat with VitaminDaily.com today. Being a busy mother of 2, what’s a typical day like for you?
A typical day involves me trying as hard as I can to get to the coffee first but usually getting side tracked with a list of demands from my little bosses. "Mom can you please make me oatmeal?" "Mom we’re gonna be late!" "Mom I forgot I did have homework! Can you help me?" Its those darned lunches that really get me.Raine is much better at making them at night than me!

If I am in town and "on" as Raine and I sometimes refer to it, I run our two oldest boys to school, and Sal waits at home with his Dad and then I walk him to Montessori school a few doors down. Then I usually run the dogs out in one of the trails, and then the day begins. If I am working from home, it’s probably Raine and I in the studio and both of us intermittently dealing with other work tasks like scheduling or planning the year-end school party at our house or booking summer camps like I have been this week!

If I am on the road doing an appearance I am probably texting between interviews to the kids or Raine (crazy, the feeling I get now when a text comes in from my 9-year-old) or I am on some stage singing my face off! I don’t get a ton. of sleep, but when I do its serious!

With your busy home schedule and a career that requires being in the public eye (and on television), what is your go-to routine for getting out the door looking put together?
I try not to blow dry my hair (or wash it a ton for that matter) unless i am doing a show or going out with my husband or something like that. At that point I may blow it and straighten or throw some loose curls in.Then even if i only have time for concealer and mascara I feel good. I love to have some lip balm at all times! And maybe one go – to piece of dramatic jewelry, whether a bulkier watch or long big locket or just something to look a bit "on" and that way it can be jeans and a T-shirt and trench coat or cozy sweater or something effortless so I still feel happy and not all restricted.

For date night with your husband Raine, what is your favourite go-to look?
I know Raine loves a classier me when we go out to an event or on a date. The performer me is unpredictable- can be casual rock or dress up sexy but Raine loves a classy mom me. He always tells me I look pretty if i have an elegant linen tunic on with linen wide legged pants, for example. And he loves it if i have no make up on.

Choosing Walmart’s Mom of the Year will be a very difficult task – what trait do you value most in mothers?
I think that the ability to focus on family is something that I value. It seems like today in our society, people more than ever can become side tracked by the plethora of distractions….have you ever logged on to face book? Just the social media web alone….it seems like we can easily get tangled into other worlds very quickly, very easily…. we can get wrapped up in a wide array of options out there in the crazy world! So to be able to be present and consistent in that presence. This is a beautiful thing.

Musicians seem to always be on the road, so you must be adept at packing: what are the essentials you can’t travel without?
I need my Bose earphones, a great memory foam travel pillow, a scarf that can be my blanket. I need my jammies and I have to have lipbalm, serum and at least a tinted SPF toner. if i have those things and my passport, i am safe and well!
