Pier Pressure

August 12, 2013

Best location, best culinary dish, best wine. It truly was the Best of
the West culinary competition at The Harmony Arts Festival in West
Vancouver.

The pressure was on for 13 North Shore restaurants, each given a BC wine
to pair with/create a dish that would complement it, with attendees
judging each bite.

Gusto di Quattros’s seared duck breast, espresso and coca marinade was
sweet and savoury and paired nicely with Poplar Grove’s CSM (wines only
available at the Okanagan winery).

Surprise favourites for us were Finch and Barley with their quinoa
croquettes with goat cheese paired with Quail’s Gate rose.

And for dessert, we loved the gents at the CC Violin table and their
strawberry and blueberry tartes which were paired with Mission Hill’s
limited edition viognier.

To top it all off, the setting was stunning, white lanterns strewn along
the pier and live music playing softly in the background.
