Unless you’re extremely British or the purveyor of fine tradition, you may have yet to experience the luxury that is high tea. Well now is the time to indulge: The Shangri-La Hotel has introduced a Nutcracker High Tea, running daily until January 2nd between the hours of 2 and 5pm.
Featuring 78 flavours of premium tea (I highly recommend the Earl Grey Cream), as well as scrumptious scones, and finger sandwiches, this event is given the Christmas touch with Nutcracker themed pastries all created in honour of the ballet’s second act. The "Spanish Dance" chocolate truffle, "Arabian Dance" coffee opera cake, and "Dance of the Reed Flutes" marzipan cake will all melt in your mouth as you relax in one of Toronto’s most lively hotel lobbies.
This afternoon treat is in perfect proximity to the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts across the street, so the Nutcracker theme can easily carry into an evening performance of the ballet. However, if you’re able to score a coveted seat by the lobby’s double-sided fireplace flickering along the centre of the room, you may never want to leave.—Laura Lanktree
