In her first book, Listen to the Squawking Chicken: When a Mother Knows Best, What’s a Daughter to Do? A Memoir (Sort Of), Lui unveils the complexity of mother-daughter relationships with candor and affection (and a few curse words sprinkled in for good measure) and hilariously captures the experience of first-generation Canadian kids (sleepovers? Dream on!).

Her mom is the star of most stories, and for good reason: a formidable women, she is always quick with a Chinese fable, feng shui advice and Tiger Mom wisdom. Strong, smart, and a fighter —like mother, like daughter.
