Return of the Macaron

April 10, 2014

easter macaronsAttention chocolate-haters: we know you’re out there, and our hunt for the perfect Easter treat to please your cocoa-adverse palate has yielded a sweet treasure.

Carly Wintschel of Kitchening & Co. in Langley makes some of the prettiest Parisian macarons this side of the pond. Available at Urban Fare and other Lower Mainland food shops, Wintschel uses beets, turmeric, annatto seeds and other naturals to colour her gluten-free goodies, yielding pastel results that work perfectly for our Easter spread.

Mandarin strawberry, vanilla bean lavender, raspberry, lemon and pistachio (to name a few)—these macarons look good enough to eat. —Noa Glouberman
