Wood Works

June 3, 2014

yew woodshopTired of drooling over gorgeous DIY woodworking projects that you’ll attempt one day—maybe? Go to the pros at Yew Woodshop.

Four Vancouver businesses have converged under one roof to build a collective woodshop devoted to creating exquisite, custom-designed products. Yew works with mostly locally sourced and reclaimed material (repurposed wooden beams from old barns and warehouses, anyone?) to reproduce the shelving unit you sketched on the back of a napkin, the baby crib Ikea doesn’t carry or the perfect custom door for your home. The company was also one of the businesses featured on the May 31st Made in Strathcona tour, and will no doubt be outfitting the hip neighbourhood’s newbie cafés and home renos with gorgeous custom woodwork.

Or so we hope. Knock on wood! —Michelle Gadd
