Between green juicing and raw fooding, a girl occasionally feels the need to scarf down a cheesy pile of fried carbs. Since these moments are (should be) rare, when we do indulge, the meal better be done right.
Enter Poutineville, a Montreal original now open in TO, where the hefty house specialty consists of hand-crushed potatoes (delightfully crispy on the outside, giving way to soft potato inside) topped with melty Quebecois cheese curds and mozzarella and braised beef in a flavourful wine sauce. If you’re of a DIY mindset, Poutineville’s menu lets you make a custom bowl, with poutine and pepper sauces that are both meat and gluten-free, and a dairy-free cheese option for vegans. Breakfast and brunch poutine, complete with fresh-cracked egg? They’ve got that, too.
Cheat days are tasting mighty fine. —Karen Kwan
