Argentinian-born chef Antonio Park of the Park Restaurant and Chopped Canada fame has opened a new eatery that proudly showcases his South American roots.
Lavanderia, named after Park’s parents’ laundry business, features a menu of fresh, bright flavours. We started our meal with a sweet-tart pisco sour and a tangy ceviche of market-fresh fish, followed by a bowl of warm chipas—a gluten-free Argentinean cheese bread that puts regular rolls to shame—and an ooey-gooey queso fundido of melted cheese studded with chorizo. Classic empanadas and tamales are also on offer, but but the real star of the show is the asado: fresh seafood and meats charcoal-grilled to perfection and served with three savoury sauces. Don’t leave without a bite of chocolate peanut cake—the most perfect combo of sweet and salty since Reese invented the peanut butter cup.
The final treat of our evening: celeb-spotting Montreal Canadien P.K. Subban (who is, apparently, a regular), plus a note-to-self to return for the empanadas. —Jennifer Nachshen
