Usually, late-night and stand-by Vietnamese restaurants come with the decorative palette of a nursing home, with accessories to match. Restaurant HÀ has changed this.
Inside, textured warm colours, impeccably chosen lights and lavish seating welcome guests to their seats—a happy departure from some of our albeit-favourite hole-in-the-wall eateries. We nibbled on fresh spring rolls and beef tataki over a spicy papaya salad as the lights were lowered and the music intensified. At our waiter’s suggestion, we tried the maple syrup and lemongrass pork ribs, the grilled beef and watercress salad and the beed phō soup. As each dish descended onto our bamboo table, we noted the delicate and refined style of plating; more importantly, they were damn delicious!
We’ll be coming back to HÀ phō-ever! —Ariella Starkman
