Forget April showers; this month means lots of great performances around the city, sure to keep you entertained. Here are three we are really excited about:
Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities: The yellow and blue tents are up on Stampede Grounds, meaning that Cirque du Soleil is back in town, this time bringing its newest show, Kurios, with it. On from April 9th to May 24th, the show promises to challenge your perception of reality versus imagination and thrill with aerial, dance and trapeze performances. www.cirquedusoleil.com
A Worthy Opponent: This newest show from Lunchbox Theatre, on from April 6th to 25th, is one we can all relate to. Nathan and Ivy are about to be married, but must overcome one big hurdle first—a disapproving mother-in-law. This show is a must-see this spring. www.lunchboxtheatre.com
Calgary Underground Film Festival: One of our favourite festivals of the year (and on from April 13th to 19th at the Globe Cinema), we’re looking forward to a perfect mix of films that range from quirky and offbeat to downright weird. Opening film Ex Machina, a science-fiction robot romance, is already getting buzz at other festivals and will make its Canadian debut at CUFF. www.calgaryundergroundfilm.org
We’re feeling more cultured already. —Sara Samson
