“Bottle service” has always seemed a bit of a misnomer to us. You get a table, they drop off a bottle and a few mixers, and you’re left to your own devices as far as making a (mediocre, at best) cocktail goes.
The Drake Hotel‘s changed all that with its new Drink Well service. You get a bottle of booze, plus all the ingredients, tools and instructions needed to make a cocktail of your choice (a Moscow Mule or Dark and Stormy, for example). A bartender then shows you, step-by-step, how to make the drink. Once you’ve completed your task, feel free to pair your creation with a fresh new dish from the Drake’s summer menu. We did, and the beets and blue cheese salad, with raspberries and a delectable grilled naan topped with roasted corn, creamy housemade ricotta and local bell pepper succotash, is to die for.
Cheers to DYI drinks! —Karen Kwan
