Éclair enthusiasts will enjoy this new coffee and pastry shop in Montreal’s Village. Why? Simple: Un café en un éclair is completely dedicated to that heavenly cream-filled pastry.
Laurie Gamba and Bastien Carrasco, the chef-couple who opened this cute and clever little spot, worked at some of the city’s finest dining domains (Européa, Chez L’Épicier and Laurie Raphaël) before putting their best pastry forward. We tried their dulce de leche, citrus meringue and chocolate éclairs and are happy to report, they’re all to die for. Add a latté, espresso or macchiato for balance (featuring Agusto coffee from Brazil)—or, if you’re in the mood for something savoury, order one of the café’s sandwich-like éclairs with delicious fillings like Caesar salad or grilled seasonal vegetables with olive tapenade and cream cheese.
We thank the pastry gods for this baked-goods blessing. —Carrie MacPherson
