We’ve been wooed (and wowed) by Chinatown’s latest chic lounge space.
Nestled below Asian-fusion resto Sai Woo, Woo Lounge recreates the seductive mystery of opium dens with Chinese screens, red lanterns, embroidered pillows and flickering candlelight. On Friday and Saturday nights, DJs spin dope beats while patrons down a specially curated mix of four cocktails (though we hear a menu extension is in the works). Among them: the spicy Shanghai Alley (gin, local ginger beer, lime juice and bitters) and luscious Kitty Pong (with a foamy egg-white cap so thick, our trio of latte art-style hearts remained intact till the very last sip). Ask nice (real nice) and the barkeep might just sneak you one of the infamous tea smoke-infused Smoking Guns from the eatery upstairs.
Craft cocktails, opulent ambiance, forbidden drinks … Chinatown’s found new glory. —Miranda Sam
