Set the scene: Nothing says Canada like a little splash of red and white. From banners to flags, this colour combo will immediately set the scene. Pick up a flag at the dollar store or download and print one off of the web.
Get your DIY on: To amp up your Canada Day party, get the kids involved in a little DIY. From homemade Canada Day hats to red and white ribbon streamer wands, all you need are a few supplies to keep them entertained for hours.
Serve a signature beverage: A good host always welcomes guests with a killer cocktail. The “Cider Crush” made with Molson Canadian Cider, crushed lemon, simple syrup and bourbon is guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser. Garnish with a Canadian flag stir stick.
Serve Canadian faves: From ketchup chips (made in Canada, BTW!) to poutine to maple donuts, today’s the day to indulge in those Canadian classic recipes and flavours. Ask friends to each bring one signature dish that speaks to a Canadian tradition. Have fun with the desserts: cupcakes decorated to look like a beaver or a Canadian flag are always a hit.
Host a scavenger hunt: Test your guest’s Canadian knowledge with a Canada Day-themed scavenger hunt. Have them follow the clues to collect a number of Canadian items (maple leaf, flag, a toy moose, a bottle of maple syrup). The winning team takes home the goods!
Don’t forget the fireworks: Ask each of your neighbours to contribute a small amount of money and select a few adults as the fireworks team. Bring out some outdoor speakers and blast the classic Canadian tunes. If you aren’t up for hosting your own fireworks check your community news for a listing of parks hosting a fireworks show.
