Something awesome from Transylvania just landed in Kerrisdale (and no, it’s not a certain caped villain).
The Kurtosh is Vancouver’s only bakery dedicated to the Eastern European tradition of the chimney cake, a tubular stretch of raised dough roasted around a spit then sweetened or seasoned with a variety of toppings. The delicious pull-apart bread originates from Transylvania, but is commonly known in Hungarian culture. Popular varieties at The Kurtosh include Cinnamon, Coconut and Dark Chocolate. We recommend taking it a step further with Matcha Coconut, Nutella Almond, or even a hot dog wrapped with the rotisserie dough! Believe it or not, the dough itself is made vegan: no butter, no eggs and no milk. So grab a fresh kurtoskalacs (Hungarian for chimney cake), a 49th Parallel coffee, and sit back to relax in the shabby chic café.
