Give these February events priority on your social calendar! —Sara Samson
1. The theme of this Market Collective is love, making it the perfect time to get all your Valentine’s Day shopping done, locally.
2. See your favourite flashback films from the 1980s and ’90s—think Jurassic Park and Pulp Fiction—on the big screen again at Cineplex Odeon Eau Claire Market.
3. The Block Heater music festival, hosted by Calgary Folk Music Festival, includes 25 local, national and international artists at four venues along Music Mile in Inglewood.
4. There’s still time to see Wait Until Dark, the newest mystery at Vertigo Theatre, which is an adaptation of Frederick Knott’s classic thriller.
5. The free Baconfest 4 film festival, which explores urban planning, is named after renowned architect and planner Ed Bacon. But don’t worry: bacon will also be served.
6. The annual In the Heat of the Night Valentine’s event is back at the zoo; learn about “critter romance” through special presentations after a candlelight dinner in the observatory.
7. Public spaces throughout the core will be brimming with art installations and public performances from local and national artists at the new Glow Downtown Winter Light Festival.
8. Add a little sweetness to your life by sampling delicious hot chocolates from eateries around the city, including the Marble Coconut from Rosso (be sure to vote for your favourite).
9. Sample national and international wines and snack on delicious appetizers at Winefest Calgary.
10. Get outside with the family over the long weekend for various WinterFest games and activities at Fort Calgary, including dreamcatcher making and sampling from a sugar shack.
