Take all of your preconceived ideas surrounding shopping-mall cosmetic stalls—tiny units, often on wheels, cluttered with bottles, vials and jars and manned by salespersons seemingly more interested in their smartphones than the items they’re hocking—and toss them out the window.
Korean beauty brand Racinne, newly opened in Richmond Centre in a bright spot just beyond Aritzia’s front door, sheds all old notions of a hastily erected kiosk thanks to its custom-built and, lucky for us, permanent unit, boasting glossy white counters and cabinetry punctuated by sleek gold signage, fresh flowers, bowls of succulents and, of course, globally celebrated skin-care offerings. Among the best-of-the-bestsellers you’ll find organized along the shop’s gorgeous bottom-lit showcase: the Ultimate Youth Power Eye Serum (its unique applicator mimics the shape of a pinky finger to gently deliver micro-stimulation and instantly revitalize eyes, $32); the Aqua Blanc Brightening Mask (a fave of celeb make-up artist Lisa Eldridge, $36); and the ergonomic Lady S Home Spa Device (with two modes—“spa” for face and “fit” for body—promising to deliver visibly more-beautiful skin in just five minutes a day, $229). On our visit ahead of the June 1 grand opening, Vivian Lam with Racinne Canada gave us a passionate account of the company’s exclusive Callus Cultivation Technology, which uses plant callus extracts to help repair damaged skin, retain elasticity and restore a healthy, youthful glow. “The best part is, these products aren’t just for the rich and famous—the price points are accessible to all, and they really work,” she said. “New clients tell us they’ve used Racinne for three weeks, and already friends are asking if they’ve had ‘work done.’ We love feedback like that—it shows what we’re doing as a brand is worth it.”
Say no more, we’re sold. —Noa Nichol
