The local (Vancouver) artist and actor is is donating his full back to get tattooed to benefit Youth Unlimited, which works with and brings hot meals to at-risk, vulnerable and homeless youth—but only if the campaign raqises $10,000 by Saturday, November 18. If the fundraising target is hit, Josh will get a live tattooing of any art piece with the most votes from those who have donated through Fundly. The live tattooing will take place at an evening fundraiser for Youth Unlimited called The Art of Art. What is Youth Unlimited all about?
Youth Unlimited is about helping, supporting and believing in kids and teens that may have no one else to believe in them. They’re focused on raising up the next generation of leaders and difference makers. They’re about making an impact. I love that.
How/why did you get involved?
I got involved a few years ago, and I’ve been a friend of Youth Unlimited ever since. This latest idea was really more of a spur-of-the-moment thing, but now that I’m here, I’m pretty into it.
A full back is a big deal! Are you a tattoo virgin or do you have some already?
I’ve got nine or 10 already. I was saving my back for a particularly fascinating portrayal of the baptism of Christ, but if tattooing my back means I get to contribute to the building of someone’s future, then I’m totally down.
Do you have a secret hope for what ends up on your back—or are you completely open?
I want to get the baptism of Christ as seen in Orthodox iconography, in the traditional American style. I think that would be a pretty amazing piece.
What message do you hope to send through this?
I don’t have a particular message. I just think people are worth it.
