Canadians looking to set more travel and fitness goals to their New Year’s resolutions may find themselves combining the two, as the activacation emerges as the latest travel trend for 2018. Hotels.com data reveals a new wave of young travellers are swapping beaches and beers for action-packed and fitness inspired getaways.
Results from the Hotels.com Activacations Survey show that a whopping 80 per cent of 18 to 35-year-olds now consider keeping fit one of the most important parts of their holiday experience. Millennial travellers are generally looking for richer, more unusual vacation experiences and admit that they use exercise to meet new people (27 per cent) and explore new places from an alternative perspective (32 per cent).
Many travellers are happy to give up top-notch food (42 per cent), relaxing, (38 per cent), sightseeing (32 per cent) and even alcohol (24 per cent) to get their fitness fix on vacation. Fitness is now so ingrained in the holiday experience, demand for superior fitness experiences from hotels has also reached a new high. State-of-the-art fitness facilities (26 per cent), personal training (20 per cent), healthy menus (25 per cent) and free wearable fitness tech (17 per cent) all score high on the hotel wish list.
With an onslaught of major international sporting events taking place in 2018, like the Winter Olympics in South Korea, Canadians can find inspiration closer to home where they too can feel like an Olympian.
