Last night I walked into my closet and found my two-year-old daughter, in the interest of "being like mama," trying on my spikiest stillettos. "This is hard," she said, struggling to stand. Agreed (I retired that particularly impractical pair prior to pregnancy; it’s probably time to donate them)! A far better (i.e., more comfortable and less lethal) choice to achieve that coveted mommy-and-me-matchy-matchy look? Allbirds.
The super-sustainable footwear company, which uses premium, natural, earth-honouring materials like merino wool and eucalyptus pulp and responsible manufacturing processes, has officially launched in Canada, online and in two Pop-In@Nordstrom locations in Toronto (Eaton Centre) and Vancouver (Pacific Centre). Allbirds offers three styles of uer-comfy (and good-looking, to boot) shoes for men and women, as well as a Smallbirds collection for kids with adorable mini-me styles that mimic their adult-sized counterparts. And, to celebrate its Canadian launch, the company is offering a limited-edition colourway embroidered with a maple leaf (get ’em while they’re hot!).
So, here’s to footwear that keeps Mother Nature in mind—and allows my babe and me to twin it, comfortably! —Noa Nichol
