Sunscreen 101: For Your Face

June 21, 2018

We all know by now the dangers associated with the sun—and that sunscreen is a must when it comes to hot summer days. But be warned: not all sunscreens are created equal (and some work harder than others). Below, four top-pick protectors for the face that will not only shield you from the sun’s rays but will moisturize and correct problem skin, too. —Jennifer Cox

light and airy. Clinique’s Pep-Start Daily UV Protector Broad Spectrum SPF 50 ($25) is good for all skin types and tones, with a 100 per cent mineral formula that protects against UVA/UVB rays and is ideal for a naturally perfected look on those no-makeup summer days, thanks to a weightless hydrator that blends flawlessly under cosmetics.

silky smooth. La Roche-Posay’s Anthelios XL Melt-In Cream ($30) is fast absorbing with a velvety finish, plus it’s fragrance-free and water resistant. It contains patented Mexoryl sunscreen technology and other sunscreen filters and has been rigorously formulated to provide excellent protection against harmful UVA and UVB rays. You’ll be protecting your visage without the heavy caked-on feel of sunscreen.

a tad of tint. Arbonne’s RE9 Advanced Prepwork Soft Focus Veil Broad Spectrum ($55) has a breathable, lightweight veil, which creates a photo-filtered, soft focus effect to blur the look of pores and baby lines. This natural-looking tint—containing 100 per cent mineral-based sunscreen—can be worn alone or under makeup for a gorgeous glow. An added perk: part of the proceeds from RE9 Advanced Prepwork goes to supporting the Arbonne Charitable Foundation’s mission to empower teens.

urban renewal. Reversa’s hydrating care SPF 30 ($47) features advanced protection against environmental pollution based on antioxidant vitamin E and the French Polynesian kopara extract, which protects and immediately cleanses skin exposed to polluted outdoor and indoor environments. Its multi-protective and cleansing action detoxifies the skin and neutralizes toxic heavy metals, resulting in reduced free-radical activity and therefore preventing premature aging. Oui!
