For the second year, Vancouver’s South Asian Fashion Week brought an incredible runway show experience to the city. Presenting more than 20 South Asian designer shows over a three-day span in March, we witnessed an incredible mix of traditional and modern styles boasting luxe fabrics and ornate detailing. Here, some of our favourite looks—and the designers behind them. —Lee Taylor
falguni shane peacock. This husband-wife duo is a household name in the Indian luxury market, launched into international stardom when they created a gown for Beyoncé for a private show in India. Their breathtaking gowns and over-the-top designs have also been rocked by Lady Gaga and Rhianna.
singh styles. This collection, launched by Vancouver-based Kam, oozed power. Suits were the primary focus, all sporting a keen attention to detail via luxe fabrics, bold patterns and high-fashion styles like hemmed pants for men and three-piece suit styles for women.
heran. This designer’s first SAFW show included a mix-and-match of traditional Indian fabrics like silks with western designs and patterns in functional pieces for every day. We loved Heran’s take on the traditional Indian skirt, called a langa, with a zip at the back and pockets.
