Buying prescription glasses online without having to head to a real-life store? We’re here for it. Buying prescription glasses without trying them on first, and then having the hassle of returning them or wearing specs you just don’t like? Not so much.
That’s where Vancouver online eyewear retailer Clearly’s Virtual Try-On (VTO) service comes in. There’s no need to upload a photo—you just select the frames you fancy from your phone, tablet or computer and allow the site to access your camera. You’ll then see how the specs look on your face (you can even enter your pupillary distance (PD) in order to get a more accurate picture). And for those people with strong prescriptions who can’t see the screen without their existing glasses, there’s a five-second video function, which allows you to record yourself in the new frames, then play back the results while seeing clearly through your old ones. Once you’ve decided, upload your prescription or use a stored one to have your glasses made and receive them in about a week.
We tried it, and ended up ordering regular glasses and prescription sunnies that we’ve been complimented on multiple times; the BOGO offer meant the whole package came in at under $250. So impressed were we, we’re now considering ordering a regular pair of shades for those contact lens days.
