Tasting Notes: Macallan 12 Year Old Double Cask

September 9, 2019

Is two casks better than one? How about triple? Less musing, more tasting? Fair enough.

macallan

Macallan offers a single malt scotch, that is whisky aged in Scotland, in American and European oak casks. We cannot think of a better co-operation between the new and old continent. Scotland deserves to preside the United Nations. The nose is oaky, complex and deep. It smells great. A note of orange marmalade rounds up the experience. It is a very inviting aroma, reminiscent of the inside of an old and glorious sailing ship—but maybe that’s just us. The taste is creamy, lightly spicy and overall very smooth. The aftertaste is a subtle note of oak.

In our view, this is an excellent scotch. It is also dangerously easy to drink. One could say that it’s a perfect introduction to single malt for beginners. And now a final word of caution: don’t drink and sail. Guillaume Garih
