Retroshade: The End of Mercury Retrograde And Upcoming Shadow Period

February 17, 2021

Is it just us, or are you feeling like you’re in a bit of a funk lately? Fret not, we’ve been in Mercury retrograde since the end of January and we’re (finally) coming out of it on February 20th, 2021.

However, as Mercury approaches the day it actually comes out of retrograde, it shifts into a shadow period, also known as a retroshade. What does this mean exactly? While you might find communication and focus increase and meltdowns fewer and farther between, you still may be dealing with some disruptions and some mishaps for another few weeks. This period is Mercury going back to full speed after its backward motion during retrograde.

You can best use this time to reflect on communication breakdowns you may have had during retrograde, tie up any loose ends and reflect back with a fresh perspective. Worry not about the continued residual stress of retrograde; you can safely start making plans and big moves during retroshade.

During the retroshade we’ll encounter a full moon on February 27th, 2021, in Virgo, allowing us to channel our Virgo energy. This will allow us to be more tolerant and more in tune with our own emotions. The sign of Virgo is rooted in routine, physical health and how we operate day-to-day, so now is the time to check in!

The full moon is also the ideal time to reintroduce balance into your life. Have you been struggling with work-life balance? Or even self-criticism with self-love https://vitamagazine.com/2021/02/05/how-do-you-self-care/? Not only does a full moon illuminate the night sky, it’s symbolic of our own self illumination and reflecting on how we express ourselves and internalize our own feelings.

Enjoy the rest of your winter and majority of spring; the next Mercury retrograde is not scheduled until May 29th, 2021, in the air-sign Gemini, making it the strongest Mercury retrograde we’ll experience this year. Our astrological advice in the meantime: take time to evaluate how you practice self-care and recognize that sometimes self-care is selfish, but that doesn’t mean it’s not deserved. Carve out time for yourself to reflect on how 2021 has gone for you so far and what you hope the remainder of the year will bring. —Vicki Duong
