A giant, interactive mural in the heart of downtown Vancouver is supporting mental health via the St. Paul’s Foundation.
The AR-activated photo-mosaic, called Pixel Moments and created by local artist Andrea Wan, sits above London Drugs on the corner of Granville and Georgia streets and is made up of nearly 2,000 micro-donation photos (including one from our very own social media manager, Vicki Duong). When scanned with a smartphone, components of the art piece become animated, bringing another engaging element to the experience. Since launching the campaign in February, Pixel Moments has raised $299,416 through donations, sponsorship and in-kind support for St. Paul’s Hospital.
“I wanted to create an art piece that shines a light on mental health during these times of isolation,” says Andrea. “While we are taking care of our physical health, I think it’s also as important to take care of our mental health. A simple gesture of care, a genuine conversation, even a smile or eye contact goes a long way in reassuring each other that we are not alone.”
