In the spirit of spring home upgrades, we chatted with DIY expert and author Monika Hibbs about the latest trends when it comes to giving our space a refresh before heading into summer. —Vita Daily
Hi Monika! As we continue to spend more time at home, do you think there’s an increased desire to refresh our interior surroundings via a reno/upgrade? If yes, why?
Your home is your place to retreat and connect with your family. I think now more than ever people have really realized the importance of their home and how it can uplift and brighten their mood. Since we are spending more time at home, I think we are putting more effort into creating welcoming spaces, tackling renos and upgrading the tools to enhance our daily routine, that may have previously been pushed to the side.
What do you see as the top rooms to renovate in our homes, currently?
Your kitchen or your main family living space are the heart of the home and where we all seem to gather and spend most of our time. Spend time to find and upgrade pieces that you will love, but that also bring functionality to your space! I love shopping Certified Refurbished from eBay since I can get amazing “like-new” small home appliances for a fraction of the price I would normally pay.
With money in mind, what are some budget-friendly ways to upgrade our spaces?
Focus on things that will bring joy and add value within your daily routines. Choose to splurge sensibly on those items you have been holding off on upgrading by choosing to shop refurbished—such as a top-of-the-line espresso machine. I always like to start my day off with a really good cup of coffee, so I recently upgraded our coffee machine to a refurbished De’Longhi Magnifica S Espresso Machine that I got from eBay’s Certified Refurbished program. It was the perfect addition to our pantry/kitchen space and now I can have a “coffee-shop” coffee from the comfort of my own home.
As we head into summer, what, in your pro opinion, are some of the top home upgrade trends?
Health and wellness are always at the top of our minds, especially heading into the summer months. Try to utilize your outdoor space and extend your living area into your patio or backyard, taking advantage of the warm summer weather and spending as much time outdoors as possible. I also have been loving all the fresh fruit and vegetables I get at my local farmers market and as a family we have recently started juicing. The Breville Juice Fountain Cold Juicer from eBay’s Certified Refurbished program has been a hit with my family. I am excited to try juicing with some of my fave summer fruits and even make them into popsicles. Not only is juicing a healthy addition to the day, it creates a fun way to keep the kids entertained.
Speaking of summer entertaining, what are your top tips/advice for elevating our outdoor spaces for the season?
Try adding in planters and pots with seasonal plants to brighten the space. Add in throw pillows and blankets to create warmth to your outdoor furniture. Hanging chairs/swings or adirondack chairs offer additional settings and complete your space.
