Queen Priyanka’s World Record For Good Vibez

May 27, 2022

Whether it’s getting props on your OOTD or recognition for your fierce look, who doesn’t love an ego boost?! In fact, 88 per cent of people say that compliments make them feel good about themselves. Well, after a tough two years it’s clear the world is in a positivity deficit and Canada even ranks as one of the most miserable countries in the world (gasp!), so it’s a no-brainer that we could use a boost of good vibez! That’s why, earlier this month, Priyanka and Vizzy Hard Seltzer teamed up to raise Canada’s vibe by aiming to set the world record for the most compliments ever given in a single day! The best part? For every compliment given on May 18 using a special hashtag, Vizzy donated $1 to 2SLGBTQ+ charities supporting positive spaces across the country. We chatted with Pri to learn more! —Noa Nichol

Hello Priyanka! Last time we chatted, you were launching the #Vizzybility Project, to elevate the #Vizzybility of LGBTQ+ artists. Now, you’re teamed up again with Vizzy Hard Seltzer, this time for #GoodVibezDay. Can you tell us what the goal of this new campaign is?

Hi Noa, yes, Vizzy Hard Seltzer and I are back with another initiative to champion the LGBTQ2S+ community! This year we launched #GoodVibezDay, an epic, nationwide blitz of positivity which took place on May 18, to raise Canada’s vibe as we set a world record for the most compliments ever given in a single day. Sharing good vibes is more important than ever  – did you know that Canada ranks as one of the most miserable countries in the world? Also, with Pride Month on the horizon, it’s important to raise good vibes within the community as well and recognize that many Queer spaces have suffered in the last few years due to the pandemic, struggling to keep up with increased financial pressures as they remained closed for safety. When bars and restaurants catering to the Queer community close, the impact is felt even more widely, as it may mean the loss of a treasured safe space for many. Having spaces where LGBTQ2S+ people can go and feel loved and accepted provide a beacon of hope for the future and reduce the isolation that so many people in the Queer community often feel. So after a tough few years, Canada could use a burst of positivity and support. Vizzy’s #GoodVibezDay commitment to the community and fruit forward flavours definitely bring the good vibes.

Beyond setting a world record, how does this initiative benefit 2SLGBTQ+ charities supporting positive spaces across the country?

Beyond setting the world record, our excessive amount of compliments did GOOD! #GoodVibezDay is continuing Vizzy’s support of the Queer community – for every compliment using the hashtag, Vizzy donated $1 up to $25,000 to LGBTQ2S+ charities Queer Collective and The 519, funding initiatives and spaces that support inclusivity for the LGBTQ2S+ community. Queer Collective is a Toronto-based non-profit organization supporting accurate and positive representation for the LGBTQ2S+ community with an emphasis on uplifting local Queer artists. The 519 is a Toronto-based charity supporting the evolving needs of the LGBTQ2S+ community, offering leadership and services such as counselling, support groups, senior support and more. This charity’s aim is to provide non-judgemental safe spaces where members of the LGBTQ2S+ community can work towards their goals.

In your opinion, why is an ego boost always a good thing? How can giving and receiving compliments (two-way street) fill what feels like a real positivity deficit in the world as of late?

There’s nothing wrong with an ego boost! I’ve received so many compliments (perks of being a drag queen!) and they make me feel super confident when I’m performing, on TV, or roaming through the streets. I want to extend this positivity to everyone elsewe are all fabulous in our own way and acknowledging this will help brighten everyone’s day.

Your top tips for easy-peasy compliment giving?

The best compliments are the ones that are super personal. When giving plus ups, I don’t hold back on the kindness. When you start spreading the love, everyone will get into it! Let me show you … Noa, you’re the ultimate boss babe! The VITA Daily magazine layout is as stunning as you. Way to inspire!

How about those of us who just can’t accept a compliment? Any advice?

I would say being your own cheerleader is the easiest way. We get lost in trying to find affirmations from different people and although getting a compliment from a stranger is so nice I think it’s important to compliment yourself!

Last but not least, we need to know: your fave compliments to give and receive?! Or, alternately, the best compliment you’ve received or given as of late?!

Being asked to be Vizzy’s Community Impact Director last year was the ultimate compliment because it meant that all the hard work that I’ve put into my career was now being put back into the community. I loved it so much. I also love when people know the words to my music, it’s always so shocking to me. Keep an eye out for the Final Chapter of my Music Video series!
