We all wait for summer to roll around, in anticipation of warmer days on the beach, floral mini dresses and, of course, our favourite summer fragrances. Whether you are spending summer in the city or going on a long-awaited vacation, you’ll want to switch up your scents to compliment the season. This list has summer fragrances for everyone—from classics to new favourites. —Alexandra Aulicino
Florals for summer are classic for good reason, and Gucci’s Bloom Eau de Toilette ($146) is a light floral scent that’s perfect for everyday wear thanks to its balance of sandalwood, jasmine, tuberose, neroli and musk. If you prefer the smell of roses, try Maison Francis Kurkdjian’s L’Eau A la Rose Eau De Toilette ($290)—a full and fresh fragrance that contains more than 400 roses, and notes such as lychee.
We all love the smell of the beach, and these two fragrances perfectly encapsulate that experience. “Replica” Beach Walk from Maison Margiela ($175) is a fresh scent inspired by salty air and warm sun on the skin, with notes of bergamot and coconut milk. Another fave is Louis Vuitton’s On the Beach ($350), which features yuzu, neroli, herbs and cyprus. This citrus scent reminds us of a long sunny day by the sea!
Not going to Europe this summer? No worries. Loewe’s Paula’s Ibiza Eau de Toilette ($123) is a cool collab that reminds us of partying in Ibiza all day (and night) long. This refreshing scent contains amber, coconut water, Madagascan mandarin oils and frangipani flowers. Tom Ford’s Neroli Portofino Eau De Parfum ($458) is a citrusy and vibrant fragrance that encompasses the essence of Portofino, with citrus oils, florals and amber. Jo Malone London has a large range of classic summer fragrances, but this year’s Blossoms Collection is inspired by a Sardinian Summer in the Mediterranean and has a new iconic scent, Bitter Mandarin Cologne ($138), that’s perfect for a summer evening thanks to notes of citrus mandarin and warm amber. Want even more mandarin? Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic Guerlain ($125), with notes of clementine, bitter orange, orange blossom, green tea and ivy is a seasonal winner.
If you’re looking for something more unique, try Vilhelm Parfumerie’s Mango Skin ($295), which smells of summer’s favourite fruit: ripe mangos. For a sweeter option go for Sol De Janeiro’s SOL Cheirosa ’62 ($102), which smells exactly like the brand’s iconic Brazilian Bum Bum Cream; notes of salted caramel, pistachio, jasmine petals and vanilla make for the perfect warm and delicious scent. Byredo is a cult favourite brand for a reason and Gypsy Water ($375) is the best-selling fragrance. It features pine, sandalwood, vanilla and lemon, creating the perfect unique smell that can be worn day and night.
