Heading into the first long weekend of summer, it’s certainly reason to celebrate. Throw a barbecue at in the back yard, a picnic at the park or lunch at the lake with these Canadian-made foods that make any gathering a tasty party indeed. Here’s what we found and can’t keep our hands off. —Catherine Dunwoody
Grill up some President’s Choice Chickpea and Sweet Potato Veggie Burgers for a plant-based meal that’s satisfying due to their texture and flavour. Loving the other new flavours too, like the black bean and corn version. We won over even the biggest meat-lovers with these.
M & M Food Market has upped their game with all kinds of new meals and sides, and what could be more classic Canadian than poutine? Skip turning on the oven this hot weather weekend, and throw a pan of Vegetarian Classic Poutine right on the BBQ. Fries, gravy, and Quebec cheese curds, all there.
Elevated hot dogs. Is that a thing? Oh yes it sure is, especially these from President’s Choice, using their brand new, slightly spicy Gold BBQ Sauce. Click Spiralized Hot Dogs with Gold Sauce Mayo for the recipe and be sure and crumble some ripple chips on top for extra crunch.
We look forward to Hardbite’s limited edition True North Spuds every summer. The wow factor when you pour a bag into a bowl is that these red and white potato chips look and taste about as patriotic as you can get. The red colour? Just white potatoes dipped in natural beet juice. All natural, gluten-free, and no trans fats.
M & M Food Market is having a hard time keeping these new gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches in their freezers, since they are nothing short of delicious. The Canadian Celiac Association gives them the thumbs up, and we do too.
Righteous Gelato has an impressive collection of ice creams and gelatos with flavours you just don’t find everywhere. The dairy-free plant-based Peanut Butter and Jam has PB & J fans clamoring for seconds. Buy two pints. Thank us later.
