Celebrate Cultural & Culinary Diversity Coast-to-Coast With OpenTable

July 7, 2022

Canada is known as a melting pot of cultures (psst: this year already looks set to eclipse 2021 in welcoming newcomers, with last year seeing the greatest number of newcomers in a year in Canadian history), and that diversity definitely extends to the foods we love to eat—in fact, it’s an awesome way to celebrate our country’s diversity! And, if you’ve ever wondered what the top trending international cuisines are from coast-to-coast, OpenTable, a leading provider of online restaurant reservations, has you covered.

New data from OpenTable reveals some very tasty trends when it comes to dining diversity in Canada, with a whopping 136 types of international cuisines represented nationwide on the platform. Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary and Montreal offer the widest range of cuisines, with more than 50 to choose from. Edmonton and Ottawa are close behind at more than 35 different cuisines each. Nationally, the 10 trending international cuisines are:

• British (+89%)
• Thai (+70%)
• Mexican (+57%)
• Middle Eastern (+42%)
• Lebanese (+28%)
• Latin American (+21%)
• Asian (+18%)
• Mediterranean (+16%)
• American (+14%)
• Contemporary Italian (+4%)

“Canada’s cultural diversity is one of the country’s greatest assets, and it’s incredible to see the impact to the already-rich culinary mosaic,” says Matt Davis, country director, OpenTable Canada. “Our data tells us that Canadians are embracing the 136 cuisines OpenTable restaurants offer, indicating palates are becoming more adventurous as cuisines become more diverse. We hope those looking to try something new can use these trending cuisines as inspiration.”

Looking to enjoy national or regional trending cuisine in your city, or on your summer travels? Consider fan-fave restaurants like Kin Kao Song in Vancouver (Thai), Kook Korean BBQ in Vancouver (Korean), Polos Social Lounge in Edmonton (American), Myth in Toronto (Mediterranean), North and Navy in Montreal (Italian) and Vivaan Fine Indian Cuisine in Ottawa (Indian).

And, to explore different cuisines quickly and easily, simply navigate to “Cuisines” within the search function online and within the OpenTable app. You can select one or multiple options to see restaurants nearby. Happy eating, bon appétit, buen provecho, buon appetito, genieße dein essen and tamasahin ang iyong pagkain! —Vita Daily

Myth is an excellent restaurant – and its been a few years since we ate there. I also want to enjoy some Korean food again. Its been a while. But from that list, the one we have tried much is Latin American. We will have to find some new places to try out.
