There’s a new Canadian biotech company that’s striving to make a real and meaningful difference in the lives of people experiencing hair loss, via scientifically proven and natural active ingredients. We chatted with the team at Triple Hair to find out more. —Noa Nichol

Hi Triple Hair team! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.

Triple Hair Group Inc. is a Canadian biotechnology company specializing in developing innovative effective combination treatments for hair loss, clinically referred to as alopecia, which impacts 20 per cent of the human population. Androgenic Alopecia is a multifactorial disease which accounts for more than 90 per cent of hair loss incidents and we believe no single molecule can address the different causes. Our solution to this problem is an exciting and innovative pipeline of products starting with TH07, which is a triple fixed dose combination prescription product currently being advanced into clinical trials around the world. This product is targeted at men between the ages of 18 and 65 or post-menopausal women. Triple Hair has recently launched this product in Canada and the United States through a pharmacy compounding program, providing access to a safe and effective prescription treatment to 80 million North Americans who have not had a new treatment option in almost 40 years! In addition, Triple Hair has developed drug-free and natural hair-loss products for milder alopecia for both women and men, which has been clinically proven to be as effective as Rogaine 5 per cent foam, with virtually no side effects. These products are branded as RIZN for men and Plenty Natural for women. In summary, Triple Hair provides multiple safe and effective combination solutions to the wide spectrum of hair loss, ranging from more severe androgenetic alopecia to milder hair loss.

What is Plenty Natural by Triple Hair, and when/why was it launched?

Plenty Natural was launched by Triple Hair in February 2022. Its topical spray provides a safe and effective combination solution for women that is clinically proven to help them achieve denser, thicker, fuller, looking hair. The Plenty Natural brand contains three products at the moment: 

1. PLENTY Hair Densifying Spray: a topical spray combining 3 natural active ingredients with clinical evidence for hair growth.
2. PLENTY Hair Complex: a selection of essential vitamins and minerals for women’s hair and general health.
3. A Derma Roller: a micro needling system promoting hair regrowth by stimulating the blood flow in the scalp and promoting better Hair Densifying spray product absorption.

A key near term priority for Triple Hair will be to provide product support which will include:

• A telehealth system which enables a patient to seek medical consultation from health care practitioners for diagnosis and treatment from the comfort of their own home. The diagnosis can be made through a prescriber and the product shipped to the patient.
• Triple Hair is aiming to provide Plenty Natural Community based around online groups, newsletters, live formations, blogs and Q&As with our support team.

We do know a little about hair loss in women, but can you give us a more detailed explanation of what it is and who it can impact?

Female pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia in women) is the most common type of hair loss in women. The causes of Female Pattern Baldness are multi-factorial but can be attributed to genetics, aging and hormone imbalance. Female pattern baldness (FPB) causes the hair follicles to shrink, making the hair thinner and thinner over time. This type of hair loss is characterized by the widening of the center part of the hair. It can also affect the region above the forehead (frontal hair loss). FPB can cause much more than hair loss. It can also deeply affect women’s self-esteem, which can sometimes lead to feelings of shame, anxiety and depression. Post-partum hair loss can also occur in women although this is not considered true hair loss according to dermatologists. Dermatologists refer to this as excessive hair shedding and usually resolves within a year on its own. Excessive shedding is temporary, and women should seek the advice of their doctor to determine if there is true hair loss or excessive shedding. 

How can Plenty Natural products help? Tell us more about the ingredients, and the technology.

Plenty Natural’s solutions for hair loss include a Hair Densifying Spray, a Hair Complex (vitamins and minerals) and a Derma Roller (micro-needling device). Each of these tools can help with hair loss in women differently. The scientific rationale is that combination treatment is always more efficient than using one product or one ingredient alone.

The Plenty Hair Densifying Spray is a topical spray formulated by physicians to alleviate the symptoms of hair loss. The main ingredients of this over-the-counter spray are melatonin, resveratrol and pea sprout extract. Melatonin is an anti-oxidant and a positive hair growth modulator which has previously been commercialized by Asatona AG as a monotherapy after clinical trials in nearly 1,900 patients. Resveratrol is also a hair growth modulator that acts on the prostaglandin pathway by decreasing prostaglandin D2. Resveratrol is a natural ingredient that is found in grapes. Pea sprout extract has been shown to improve hair density when applied topically by enhancing the expression of fibroblast growth factor and noggin, genes responsible for hair growth. The Triple Hair technology is the combination of these natural ingredients blended into a single convenient topical spray that is clinically proven to be safe and effective.

The product is designed to be used once daily by spraying onto the scalp and gently rubbing it in to let it dry. In our clinical trials, we have seen results in as little as two weeks, although the greatest results usually occur after three months of treatment. The product is designed to be used daily for as long as hair loss symptoms continue. Consumers can supplement the topical spray with the Plenty Natural vitamins, which provide additional antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits.

Nutritional deficiency can also be at the root of hair loss. It is essential to have a healthy diet to maintain healthy hair. The Plenty Hair Complex is a blend of curated vitamins and minerals in a specific dosage that will promote hair density and hair growth while supporting good overall health.

The Triple Hair Derma Roller, compatible with Plenty Hair Densifying Spray, is a micro-needling device that will promote blood flow to the treated scalp area, allowing nutrients to be brought to the hair follicles, preventing their miniaturization and promoting their regrowth. It also helps the Plenty Hair Densifying Spray to penetrate the scalp better and improves its efficiency. When choosing a micro-needling device, one must be careful with its needle length. Triple Hair Derma Roller has an optimal needle length to be safely used on the scalp at home.

Pro tips for best use of the products, or how to create a hair-growth regime?

The most essential tip for hair regrowth success is consistency. Hair growth products must be applied daily to work properly. Plenty Natural’s hair growth regime helps in three ways:

1. Hair Complex in the morning and evening: provides the essential nutrients needed all day to avoid nutritional deficiencies caused by a suboptimal diet.
2. Derma Roller in the evening: the tiny punctures from the derma roller create a blood flow to the hair follicles. The blood flow nourishes and stimulates the hair follicles, preventing them from dying or miniaturizing. We also suggest using the derma roller before applying PLENTY Hair Densifying Spray to allow better product penetration, up to three times a week.
3. Hair Densifying Spray: the hair densifying spray is the core of the solutions. It helps to stop hair loss and induce hair regrowth. We recommend using the spray before bed so the product can work its magic while you sleep.

Finally, we’d love to hear about any results/feedback from women who have used Plenty Natural products!

The three active ingredients of Plenty Natural have been clinically investigated with people having mild to moderate hair loss. A clinical study with pea sprout extract showed an increase of hair density in 75% of participants and the combination of melatonin and resveratrol were evaluated at different dosages by Triple Hair to find the most effective concentrations for hair growth. TH16, the actual dosage used in Plenty Natural, was the most effective solution for patients with androgenic alopecia. TH16 results in clinical studies and self-assessment surveys showed similar efficacy to minoxidil and over 85 per cent of participants loved the texture and consistency of the product. Here is one example of how TH16 impacted the daily life of one of the study participants. She is a nurse who worked with Triple Hair’s founder, Dr. Houfar Sekhavat, and tried TH16 because she was losing her hair and was very self-conscious about it, affecting her self-esteem. She was wearing a headband to cover her hair loss every day. When she heard that Dr. Sekhavat his hair himself, was developing hair growth solutions, she immediately wanted to try it. She started using the TH16 Densifying Spray formula in 2017 and took part in our clinical trial to evaluate the formula. Her hair growth results were great, and she is still using the product today as a part of her daily routine!
