This New Illuminating Fluid Is Beautiful Inside & Out (Win!)

When Dr. Hauschka set out to launch its new Illuminating Fluid, with shimmering pigments to create a unique face and body glow (and available late August/early September in Canada), the brand knew it had to partner with jewelry designer Saskia Diez on the packaging, to make this product shine, inside and out. We chatted with Saskia to learn more. —Noa Nichol

Hi Saskia! How did this collaboration with Dr Hauschka materialize, and what made it the perfect fit for you?

Some years ago already I was approached with by the team of Dr. Hauschka for a possible collaboration. At this time I learned that apparently pictures of mine occurred repeatedly on their internal mood boards when it was about illustrating the “Dr. Hauschka woman”. I guess I am a fit to this brand because I like a natural look, I do not really wear make up but take care of my skin. We tried several directions until we found the Illuminating Fluid was a perfect match.

You designed the beautiful packaging for the limited-edition Illuminating Fluid. What was the inspiration for your design?

On the package I wanted to illustrate this touch of gold that the fluid lends to your skin. As if putting a bit of liquid gold and spread it on your skin. So I experimented with golden spray paint, with splashes of gold. I like it how these splashes look like shiny gold on white matte paper.

Both a product like the Illuminating Fluid and your gorgeous jewelry can give us a “glow”; why is this important in daily life?

In my work, in my jewelry, I like to explore the whole field. What is jewelry? Jewelry is adornment, embellishment. This does not have to be a necklace or a ring, it can also be something that puts a golden shimmer on your skin. Like the Illuminating Fluid. The principle of the shining effect is the same than in mother of pearl, though the mother of pearl effect it is not fully explained yet, a fact that I like a lot because the mystery of the luster stays mysterious. Wearing a glow makes you feel shining from the inside out, it reflects back on your inner self if you let it to. A glow that makes you feel more beautiful. We all need more beauty I think.
