When we were in our late teens (and past our Love’s Baby Soft and Coty Exclamation stages), it was all about Mugler Angel. Launched in 1992, with super-sweet notes of cotton candy, coconut, cassis, melon, pineapple, honey, apricot, peach, rose, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, amber, musk and more, the perfume became a top seller worldwide, and recipient of a Fifi Fragrance Hall of Fame Award.
Now, the iconic scent celebrate its 30th anniversary. As a brand, Mugler is radical and uncompromising and Angel represents the epitome of it, distinguishing itself in the world of modern perfumes with notes that had never been used before. Ethyl maltol, a compound used in the food industry to lend a sugary taste to sweets, started an olfactory revolution that launched a new perfume category: gourmand. Meanwhile, Angel’s complex and unprecedented bottle paved the way for ethical fragrance luxury that champions responsible development, waste reduction, and a one-on-one client service before its time. To allow Mugler fragrance lovers keeping their beloved bottles, Mugler constantly upgrades, since its launch, this centuries-old tradition of perfume fountains, enabling customers to refill bottles endlessly, in store or at home, and act together with the brand for a more sustainable luxury. Angel is a revolution of its own.
To celebrate this milestone, the Brooklyn Museum will be hosting an exhibition titled Thierry Mugler: Couturissime that will be open to the public until May 7, 2023. The presentation includes a gallery dedicated to fragrance, with a section celebrating the 30th anniversary of Mugler’s revolutionary scent, Angel. Angel is displayed alongside Mugler’s later fragrance creations Alien, A*men, Aura, and Womanity. And, looking ahead to 2023, the brand has some super-exciting announcements and exclusive opportunities regarding new spokespeople that we look forward to sharing with you in the new year. —Vita Daily
