Another month has come and gone and we’re in full summer mode here on the West Coast. Think long hot days with an emphasis on healthy sun-protected skin and sweat proof makeup. Below are some of my favourite new discoveries from the month of June. —Vicki Duong
rhode. This past month I’ve been jet setting which, while a lot of fun, wreaked havoc on my skin. The change in humidity and long flights compromised my skin’s natural barrier so it’s no surprise that additional TLC was needed upon arriving home. Enter the new Glazing Milk ($44) from Rhode. The newest offering from Hailey Bieber’s skincare brand is a lightweight essence that helps calm and reduce the appearance of redness and prep your skin for additional products.
bobbi brown. When it comes to summer eye makeup, I am a one-and-done kind of gal. Thankfully the creamy formula from Bobbi Brown’s Dual-Ended Eyeshadow Stick ($50) provides a blendable colour that is easy to apply. Each stick comes with a matte end and a shimmery end perfectly paired to create a cohesive look that can be blended with your fingertips for the perfect smokey eye
three ships. One of my favourite ways to cool down in the summer is to keep eye masks in the fridge to keep them chilled. As of late, my go-to has been the hydrogel eye masks ($40) from Three Ships. Not only does it depuff and brighten but the masks are biodegradable and dissolve in water so they can simply be placed in hot water for 10 minutes before being poured down the drain.
mintier. While it’s not a beauty product per se, much like a fresh manicure having fresh breath ups our confidence in social settings. It might not be possible to carry a tube of toothpaste and toothbrush while on the go, Mintier’s Breath Serum ($25) fits right into your handbag. This sugar-free blend uses the power of peppermint and MCT oil to not only freshen your breath, but support oil health.
u beauty. The Plasma Lip Compound ($88) from U Beauty is a staple and my rotation and luckily for me, they just added tinted versions to the line-up. Now available in three versatile shades, this lip product is so much more than a gloss, it’s also a treatment that plumps and hydrates. My personal favourite is Cassis, a rich plum wine that gives your peckers a perfect berry hue.
skinceuticals. No need to wait until you actually have mature skin to incorporate skincare formulated to target fine lines, deep wrinkles and skin elasticity. The SkinCeuticals A.G.E. Interrupter Advanced ($225) has become a new staple in my routine, morning and night. The rich cream not only seems to reverse time but it also provides hydration and radiance while being free of parabens.
milk makeup. Travelling is always made easier when you are able to find minis of all of your essentials. Not only does the travel-size make packing a breeze but opting smaller sizes is a great opportunity to try new products without committing to a full-size. The Overachievers Summer Faves Makeup Set ($65) has everything you need to create the perfect no-makeup makeup look. It features Milk Makeup’s iconic blush and bronzing stocks, a mascara and brow gel plus their best-selling gripping primer.
supergoop. The iconic Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen ($49) has been an SPF fave when it comes to facial sun protection, but now that a body version ($55) is available I can stay protected from harmful rays from head to toe. Much like the OG formula this sunscreen features a silky soft-touch gel that dries down instantly and leaves no white cast making it ideal for any skin tone while providing SPF 40 protection.
nudestix. There is no denying that Sofia Richie is the newest it girl when it comes to beauty. From her lavish wedding featuring a natural glam look to keeping her skin dewy and healthy everyone wants to emulate the new bride. In collaboration with Nudestix, Nudebody was born, a luxe collection of body care, my favourite being the Resurfacing Body Toner ($35), a multi acid toner that exfoliates dead skin cells, smooths and reduces the look of hyperpigmentation.
activehumans. A forever love of natural deodorant, I am always on the hunt to find unique scents that not only perform well but elevate my routine. Inspired by scenic places all over the globe, ActiveHumans creates refillable spray deodorants ($28) that are vegan and cruelty-free plus each bottle is made right here in Canada. Scents include fresh sea salt, warm vanilla coconut and romantic rose neroli.
