Assorted Vancouver Artists: What is Welcome? – Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery (Free Admission)

The summer exhibit at this beautiful UBC gallery questions language, boundaries and potential for change. Various local artists have contributed to the exhibition, from performances to works-in-process. Don’t miss the new work by local artists Skeena Reece, Kika Thorne and Tania Willard, as part of Belkin’s ongoing commitment to diversification of the collection.

Parviz Tanavoli: Poets, Locks, Cages – Vancouver Art Gallery ($25)

This excellent summer exhibition at the Vancouver Art Gallery is the first major Canadian exhibition by the Iranian-born, Vancouver-based artist Parviz Tanavoli. Tanavoli’s sculptures examine the layering of both sacred and secular histories —an integration that is crucial to understanding the development of modern sculpture in Iran.

Jeremy Shaw: Phase Shifting Index – The Polygon Gallery (Free Admission)

The Polygon Gallery is currently presenting the North American premiere of Phase Shifting Index, an immersive installation combining film, sound and light by North Vancouver-born, Berlin-based artist Jeremy Shaw. The exhibit has received international acclaim since opening at Pompidou Centre in Paris in 2020. Located in the heart of the Lonsdale Quay, the local gallery is proud to bring this work to North American audiences for the first time.

Anja Isphording: ROTATIONS – The Heller Gallery (Free Admission)

Vancouver’s own Anja Isphording will be featured in a new exhibit, ROTATIONS, a series which has recently premiered at New York’s The Heller Gallery. Isphording’s glass pieces will be featured in this major exhibit, reminiscent of the coral reefs in her west coast home base. Be sure to check out this local triumph if you’re visiting the Big Apple this summer, or keep an eye out for Anja’s glass masterpieces in local Vancouver galleries.
