Less is more is the big trend in skincare right now, meaning having as few products in your skincare routine as possible. Sometimes we get carried away with all the latest and greatest potions that are out there, and before we know it, we’re actually doing our skin more harm than good by applying too many things to our faces. So, pare it down to just three or four essentials, like these. —Jennifer Cox
A Cleanser
Everyone needs a good face soap. One of the highest rated is Drunk Elephant’s Beste No. 9 Jelly Cleanser ($46, available at Sephora Canada). This gentle cleanser uses mild cleansing agents like coconut-based surfactants that are rich in fatty acids and work together to create a gentle lather. It removes makeup, excess oil, pollution, and grime, and rinses away without residue. It also leaves skin super clean and soft.
An Exfoliant
The 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant from Paula’s Choice ($28) is a clinically proven leave-on exfoliant with salicylic acid that quickly unclogs pores, smooths wrinkles, and evens skin tone. It helps to minimize and even clear up larger pores too. And it’s gentle enough to use every day.
A Toner
Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow PHA+BHA Pore-Tight Toner ($35) works effortlessly to tighten pores for supple, smooth skin. Their innovative formula contains a balance of hydrating ingredients and pore-tightening actives to equally minimize the look of pores and hydrate skin, and was voted best toner by Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire, and The Knot.
A Moisturizer
Having a reliable face moisturizer is key, especially in our cold and dry climate. One of the best is Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream ($80). It has a creamy, non-greasy formula that is made with powerful and hydrating Squalane, which soothes skin and locks in moisture for up to 24 hours. It balances skin’s driest areas with 2.3 times more moisture and an ultra-lightweight texture that absorbs into skin with ease.
