February 14, 2024

Fans of this complex red rarely need a special reason to celebrate it, but it’s Syrah Day on February 16, so why not? Here’s five from B.C. we’re absolutely loving. —Catherine Dunwoody

CedarCreek Estate Syrah 2020 is the result of grapes grown in the winery’s organic vineyards in the South Okanagan. The unique terroir of this particular region in BC is similar to France’s Rhone Valley where the wine originated.

Narrative Syrah Viognier 2019 is a twist on the winery’s previous Syrah offering. This time it’s a blend of Syrah and Viognier that came from two separate Osoyoos vineyards in the South Okanagan.

Mission Hill Reserve Syrah 2020 is made from the winery’s grapes grown along the Black Sage bench, where the warm sunny weather allows the grapes to completely ripen resulting in a new world Syrah.

Nk’Mip Syrah 2019 has flavours of blueberry, violets and pepper and a smooth structured finish in their Syrah. This Osoyoos-based Indigenous-owned winery should be on your list if it’s not already.

Laughing Stock Syrah 2020 from the South Okanagan is made from grapes grown on the Perfect Hedge vineyard in Osoyoos. Inspired by classic Côte-Rôtie in the northern Rhône, this classic technique results in slightly floral and soft pepper notes.
