March 31, 2024

Easter cruffins combine the deliciousness of croissants with the convenience of muffins, making them a perfect treat for the holiday season. Here’s a recipe for Easter cruffins along with some ideas for filling and decorating them:

Ingredients:

For the Dough:

  • 2 and 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt

For the Filling (Optional):

  • Fruit preserves (such as strawberry, raspberry, or apricot)
  • Chocolate hazelnut spread
  • Lemon curd
  • Cream cheese filling
  • Any other filling of your choice

For Decoration:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Easter-themed sprinkles
  • Whipped cream
  • Fresh fruit

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
    • In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook, combine the yeast mixture, sugar, eggs, melted butter, flour, and salt.
    • Knead the dough until it’s smooth and elastic, about 5-7 minutes. If using a stand mixer, knead on low speed.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1-2 hours.
  2. Shape the Cruffins:
    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.
    • Divide the dough into equal portions (about 12 portions for standard-sized cruffins).
    • Roll each portion into a ball, then flatten it into a disc.
    • Spread your desired filling onto the disc, leaving a small border around the edges.
    • Roll the dough into a log, then coil it into a spiral shape.
    • Place each shaped cruffin into a greased muffin tin.
  3. Second Rise:
    • Cover the muffin tin with a clean kitchen towel and let the cruffins rise for another 30-45 minutes, until puffy.
  4. Bake the Cruffins:
    • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
    • Once the cruffins have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
    • Remove the cruffins from the oven and let them cool in the muffin tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Decoration:
    • Once the cruffins are cool, dust them with powdered sugar.
    • Decorate with Easter-themed sprinkles, whipped cream, fresh fruit, or any other decorations you like.
    • Serve and enjoy your delicious Easter cruffins!

These Easter cruffins are sure to be a hit at your holiday gathering. Feel free to get creative with the fillings and decorations to make them even more festive. Happy baking! —Vita Daily
